Sustainable, green design principles are a part of every project at T.W. Beck Architects. Our mission on every project is to develop construct buildings that are environmentally sound and as close to zero energy as the client can afford. Our staff architects are LEED trained professionals who support green building initiatives in order to achieve efficient and eco-friendly buildings.
Inherent in sustainable design is energy efficiency, conservation of resources and acceptable indoor air quality. Initial site analysis is essential in understanding the environmental implications of a particular site. In this way, the orientation and geometry of the building can use solar energy to its advantage while simultaneously avoiding undesired weather, sun and wind factors.
We work closely with engineers, energy consultants and contractors in the design of the mechanical and electrical systems. Selection of finishes and materials are critical in providing healthy indoor air quality. The goal is to build a green home or building that has less impact on the environment while being healthy for the people who live and work there. We have always endorsed the use of established programs such as Energy Star and LEED. T.W. Beck is a member of the national and local “ U.S.G.B.C. “, U.S. Green Building Council, American Solar Energy Society, and the Colorado Heat Pump Association. Thomas Beck has been involved with solar design ever since he was at the College of Environmental Design, University of Colorado, student representative to the National Solar Design Conference held in Denver, CO in 1974. For those that do not recall or were not born , 1974 was the year of the Arab oil embargo and first energy crisis.
